PAP SMEAR PERFORMANCE IN BACTERIAL VAGINOSIS DIAGNOSIS

ABSTRACT Objective: to assess Pap smear performance in bacterial vaginosis diagnosis women of childbearing age. Method: a cross-sectional, retrospective study carried out health unit city the interior São Paulo. The included information from 1,173 who underwent collection and Gram-stained vaginal smears (reference standard test for diagnosis) analysis based on Nugent score, January 2013 June 2020. Secondary data collected internal control systems were used. Results: prevalence sample was 31.8%. degree agreement between two diagnostic methods by Kappa index 0.54, considered moderate, with value <0.001. Sensitivity 55.2% specificity 94.1%, accuracy 81.7% positive predictive 81.4% negative 81.8%. Conclusion: showed reference 0.77, however, does not replace smear, but can be used as an auxiliary method diagnosis.
